In 2023, you helped us collect more than 22.550 pounds of aluminum tabs, generating approximately $10,000 in recycling revenue to help families.

How does it work?
We collect aluminum pull tabs from containers like soda pop, soup, pet food cans, etc. then work with a local recycler to turn those tabs into money for our Family Fund. Our Family Fund provides items for families that use RMHC NEO programs. It offers assistance in emergencies and helps to give families special moments – like providing small gifts for children if they have a birthday while at a House.
Why do you only collect the tab?
We have limited space and tabs are much easier to store than whole cans. Plus, it’s more sanitary, which is important to support practices that keep our facility clean and healthy for our guests.
How much do you receive for the tabs?
There’s some science to this – and market and economic factors at play – but the simple explanation is that tabs are made of aluminum and, as with most metals, the value of aluminum varies. The tabs we collect are picked up by local recycling partners in Cleveland and Akron, our partners weigh the tabs at their processing facility, then send us a check for the total value. Fun fact: 1 pound is equal to approximately 1,000 tabs!
As I’m collecting tabs, how do I store them?
Any way you’d like! Get creative by maki
ng an eye-popping collection container. Boxes, coffee cans, or large plastic jars with wide openings (no milk jugs please!) are all great options. You can even download and print a container label for your creative masterpiece, or use our Build-Your-Own Pull Tab House template. We are limited in RMHC NEO branded collection houses to pass out.
How do I promote the program at my school, company, or organization?
We’ve got you! RMHC NEO has downloadable posters, flyers, and container labels to help you recruit friends, family, coworkers, and others. We also have a limited quantity of pre-printed items. Fill out the form below to inquire about availability.

Where do I bring my tabs once I’ve collected them?
We recommend bringing them directly to either of our Ronald McDonald House locations in Cleveland and Akron. Donations are accepted daily between the hours of 9 am-8 pm.
